Before buying my first pair of Brooks running shoes, I had heard a lot of good things about the The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19 running shoe.
Brooks are one of the leading suppliers of road running and trail running shoes, and it’s safe to say that the Adrenaline GTS brand is a go-to shoe for a lot of runners.
Along with Saucony and Asics, they are up there on the list when it comes to high end running shoes.
In this review, I’d like to give my honest opinion of these shoes having worn them for well over six months now.
A little note to say that this is not a sponsored post. I bought these running shoes myself and all opinions are my own.
The best running shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19 running shoe review
The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19 running shoe is a go-to running shoe for a lot of runners.
The shoe uses GuideRail technology to provide soft yet responsive cushioning. According to Brooks, this technology has been designed to support your knees by keeping excess movement in check.
The shoe also has cushioning in the heel to keep your landing soft, whereas the forefoot has more responsive cushioning to give you a spring in your step.
Brooks claims that the BioMoGo DNA midsole cushioning dynamically adapts to your stride, whilst an integrated Segmented Crash Pad accommodates any foot landing, delivering smooth heel-to-toe transitions.
This added stability is great for those long runs, especially if you’re running on uneven terrain. The cushioning provides just the right amount of softness, without compromising on stability.
When I first tried on the shoe, I did feel a lot of elevation in the heel. I wasn’t used to this having worn a shoe that wasn’t so cushioned before.
When I first saw the shoe in the shop they did look rather chunky compared to my old pair of Saucony running shoes, so I was surprised at how light they felt on my feet when I first tried them on.
At first I was worried they’d feel too clunky to run in. Although they felt light on my feet, they looked too large for my feet, despite fitting correctly.
For a long time I felt like I was running in clown shoes! After a while though, I got used to the look and didn’t notice their size.
After a few runs, I noticed how springy my feet felt whilst running in these shoes. I certainly noticed the difference with the amount of cushioning in the shoe.
My feet felt cushioned and stable throughout my long runs.
With my last pair of running shoes, my big toes created holes in the front of the shoes. My toes felt rather squashed hence why I was in the market for a new shoe.
With the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19 running shoe, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of room for my toes.
My toes never feel squashed and I don’t have to worry about my big toe poking through the mesh in the front of the shoe.
I’ve worn these running shoes on a mixture of terrains, including road, gravel, light trails and grassy flats. The shoes perform well on all terrains and the shoe grip is good.
Even on those rainy and muddy runs, these shoes perform relatively well, but I’d probably still opt for my trail running shoes on those hilly trail runs, especially in bad weather.
As I discussed earlier, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19 trainer looks rather clunky when you first try them on. But once you get used to them, you soon forget this.
The shoe comes in a range of colours, including black, grey, light blue and light purple, so you’ve got a wide selection to choose from depending on your colour preferences.
At the time of writing this post, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19 running shoe will set you back about £120, depending on which running shop or website you visit, so they’re not cheap!
Brooks often put last season’s shoe on sale after the Christmas break, so it’s worth checking their website to see if you can grab yourself a bargain.
Overall, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19 running shoe is a durable, comfy and stable running shoe. There’s no wonder it has become the go-to running shoe for a lot of runners.
Brooks is improving the performance and technology of the shoe each year, with the GTS 20 version being launched this year.
If you’re looking for a shoe that adequately supports your heels and knees, then this is the shoe for you.
